Hello to everyone and Happy New Year.

Today I’ve chosen to talk to you about wedding cakes.

A wedding cake is one of the main focuses of the wedding reception. It forms the centrepiece of the ceremony and is considered to be one of the most symbolic moments of the wedding and therefore special attention should be paid when you choose your wedding cake.

The choice of the wedding cake is something completely personal and it should reflect the overall wedding style and theme. Factors need to be taken under consideration before choosing the wedding cake are:

  • The size; how many guests are you planning to invite to your wedding? Even this might seem obvious there are many couples that forget to count their guests before ordering the wedding cake.
  • Basic design of the cake; if you want the cake to be a part of the whole theme and colour of the wedding then the design of the cake must be considered carefully. It is very common nowadays for brides to choose a design for the wedding cake similar to their wedding dress.
  • Consider of buying a cake that says something about you. Are you a traditionalist or a modernist? Think about a cake that makes a statement; its your wedding why don’t you design the cake?
  • Think different flavours and textures; it doesnt have to be the traditional fruitcake with the icing on top.
  • How are you going to serve the cake? Will you serve it with coffee or tea or you prefer to have it in a box and give it to your guests as a wedding favour?
  • Cup cakes instead of tier cake; is becoming more and more common for couples to choose this option. Is more cost effective and easier to serve and on top of that you can combine different designs and flavours to cater different tastes.

And finally, don’t forget to order your wedding cake well in advance since most bakers require you to place the order at least a couple of months before your wedding day. If you don’t want to find yourself without a wedding cake then make a note into your calendar to start visiting bakers at least four months before your big day.
